While in Orlando, I ran into another work friend (known as Princess to those who know her well) Saturday night at a party. She is a friend of mine who is absolutely a riot. She's originally from South Africa and has this incredibly witty humor about her.
With this huge conference in town, you can imagine there's really not a whole lot of 5 star accommodations available, and Princess had drawn the short straw, staying at some place that was even less desirable than a Motel 6. So she decided to make a trip to the Ritz Carlton to spend the afternoon there in the lap of luxury and feel like she had reconnected with the real world. :)
So of course being at an elite establishment like the Ritz, there's bound to be some well known guests. Some where along the way, Princess met Michael Jordan, and started a conversation with him. Princess knows no strangers. :) Anyhow, a little into the conversation, she asked him, "so what do you do?" His reply, "you are kidding, right?" Not knowing American sports or athletes, she truthfully replied, "no."
As she was telling us this story last night, what was even funnier, was that when she got to this part, she told us, "you know, the baseball player." To which we all started cracking up and told her, "well, he did have a very shortlived career in baseball, but he's a famous basketball player."
Princess' classic response, "Well, I know he chases some kind of ball." I can only imagine the lesson in humility for Michael Jordan to learn that not everyone in this country knows who he is.
